Xiamen Xiangan International Airport scheduled to open this year

The interior finishing work of the terminal building at Xiamen Xiangan International Airport recently wrapped up. The 550,000-square-meter terminal incorporates design elements from Minnan-style courtyard houses and Jiageng-style architecture. The entire airport has entered the final inspection and acceptance stage, which includes flight calibration and test flights as well as transition preparations.

Xiamen Xiangan International Airport is a major national transportation hub project under China's current Five-Year Plan. It is scheduled to open by the end of the year with the capacity to handle an annual passenger throughput of 45 million passengers and 380,000 aircraft movements.

XM gains trio of inbound duty-free shops

Central government officials recently issued a notice approving newly-designated inbound duty-free shops at 41 international ports. The list includes Xiamen Xiangan International Airport, Xiamen Wutong Ferry Terminal and Xiamen International Cruise Center.

Xiamen to offer free Spring Festival parking

City officials announced last week that more than 24,000 temporary roadside parking spaces across the city will be free for residents and tourists during the Spring Festival holiday. An additional 7,000 parking spaces will be free at over 30 government agencies, enterprises, institutions, communities and public parking lots.

Xiamen launched supplementary tourist shuttle buses and bus lines connecting transport hubs with scenic spots. The city is also distributing more than six million yuan in consumption vouchers. Additionally, visitors with train, flight or cruise tickets to Xiamen can enjoy discounts at local attractions.

Load testing complete for the Tianyuan and Wuyuan bridges

Load testing wrapped up last week on the Tianyuan Bridge, which has been in operation for nearly 20 years, along with similar testing for the Wuyuan Bridge. Such tests are conducted approximately every six years. A representative of the city's transportation bureau noted that sea bridges are inspected periodically in the interests of maintenance and safety.

CEC Optics Valley to redevelop Kodak's Haicang factory

Representatives of CEC Optics Valley, an industrial park operation group, announced recently that it successfully bit on a project to design, build and operate the Torch - Haicang 308 Science Park. The 841-million-yuan project will redevelop the former Kodak factory in Haicang, which was once Asia's largest photosensitive materials production base.

Local authority recently announced that overall prices for New Year's Eve dinners in Xiamen have remained stable. Local authority noted that per capita consumption at mid-level restaurants range from 150 to 300 yuan, with prices fluctuating based on the dishes and the number of diners.

Industry insiders generally believe that consumers are no longer solely pursuing high-priced luxury options, focusing instead on taste, quality of service and comfort, and ordering New Year's Eve dinner to take home is also a popular option.

Besides traditional restaurants and star-rated hotels, semi-finished New Year's Eve dinner gift boxes are also gaining popularity. On e-commerce platforms, these gift boxes typically contain a variety of pre-cooked dishes.

Gulangyu Good Couriers earns volunteer service award

Fujian officials recently announced that the volunteer youth service team of Xiamen's Gulangyu Good Couriers earned a place on the province's list of Volunteer Service Stars. The group earned a Best Volunteer Service Organization award.

Established in 2025, the team currently consists of 30 couriers from multiple delivery companies on the islet. All nine delivery firms on Gulangyu have members on the team. The volunteers have provided more than 5,000 services on the vehicle-free islet, including meal delivery for the elderly, free haircuts and emergency assistance. The team has accumulated more than 2,300 service hours.

Xiangan bald cypresses reach peak autumn color

Bald cypresses in Xiangan's Songyang Park and Wushipan Park are now at their peak colors for the fall, according to Cai Donghui of the Xiamen Xiangan Municipal Group Urban Development Company. “Wushipan Park and Songyang Park have 148 and 137 bald cypress trees respectively,” said Mr. Cai.

He explained that the leaves are currently at their most vibrant and will gradually turn yellow-brown before new growth emerges in March and April. According to Xiangan C&D Urban Construction, Xiangan Central Park is also at its peak. The park is home to about 960 bald cypresses, with the colorful autumnal display expected to last through Spring Festival.

XM's 110+ vegetarian restaurants drive market growth

A recent white paper by the Hongcan Catering Industry Research Institute and vegetarian food brand Sumanxiang estimates that the national vegetarian dining market approached eight billion yuan last year. China is home to more than 4,000 vegetarian restaurants, more than 60 percent of which are located in economically developed regions like eastern and southern China. Xiamen has around 110 vegetarian eateries, which are collectively a significant growth segment in the local dining market.

Luckin Coffee expands regional roasting program

Luckin officially debuted last week a train service ferrying coffee beans from Yunnan to Xiamen. The 2,000-kilometer route terminates at the Xiamen International Logistics Port (Qianchang Station). The first train on the service was comprised of 22 carriages carrying 682 tons of fresh coffee beans.

The beans will be transported to Luckin roasting plants in locations such as Pingnan, Fujian. Notably, Luckin Coffee has its headquarters and national strategic hub in Xiamen. The company includes nearly 30,000 stores nationwide and has processed more than 400 million cumulative transactions.
